Malcolm X at a meeting in Paris, November 23, 1964
- 1: If it was our white ancestors who bought you and enslaved you, we are their children. We are the new generation. Why don't you call us your brothers?
- 2: A man has to act like a brother before you can call him a brother. You made a very good point, really, that needs some clarification. If you are the son of the man who had a wealthy estate and you inherit your father's estate, you have to pay off the debts that your father incurred before he died. The only reason that the present generation of white Americans are in the position of economic strength that they are is because their fathers worked our fathers for over 400 years with no pay. For over 400 years we worked for nothing. We were sold from plantation to plantation like you sell a horse, or a cow, or a chicken, or a bushel of wheat. It was your fathers who did it to our fathers, and all of that money that piled up from the sale of my mother and my grandmother and my great-grandmother is what gives the present generation of American whites [the ability] to walk around the earth with their chest out; you know, like they have some kind of economic ingenuity. Your father isn't here to pay his debts. My father isn't here to collect. But I'm here to collect and you're here to pay.

"When Black women try to establish themselves within the white world, there’s a cruel irony they often have to face. It’s okay if white people make use of Black English to spice up their phrases and seem “cool,” but if Black women want to be respected and taken seriously, they need to adhere carefully to Standard English in “white” settings. Although psycholinguists have established that Black English is a respectable and viable dialect, numerous women say that they are routinely diminished, discounted, or distrusted simply because of what they say and how they say it."

"Well John, if they are not going to make a distinction between Muslims and violent extremists, why should I take the time to distinguish between decent fearful white people and racists?"

Fuck you. I refuse to hide my body just because you say that my body is wrong. Fuck you. I will not conform to your standards and wear what is flattering just because I’m not thin and you would like me to appear thin. Fuck you. I will wear my skirts and shirts as short and as low as I want to just because my ass and tits look wonderful in whatever I wear. Fuck you. I will not tolerate your words of hate and body policing just because you feel as if you’re right. Fuck you. I won’t stand for you trying to fix me just because you assume there is something wrong with me.
This. This all the time, every day, every moment, every second, every breath.
i may make it my life’s mission to post this EVERYWHERE. To memorize it and say it every time i witness fat oppression. This. So much this.
